Episode 91: Take a Chance
We find Yuma late as usual and Astral notes that he did try to wake Yuma up but not loudly enough and Bronk joins in to try and beat Yuma to school again. However, a family of ducks are in the way and Bronk manages to avoid them with inches to spare. Rio arrives and gets Bronk more in love than ever, especially when she bandages him up. Once inside school, not even free donuts or info about the group project draws Bronk away from the bandage Rio put on him. The only way for Bronk to properly find out if Rio likes him back is to ask but everyone brings up good points that conflict with each other so Flip helps to clear things up by getting Bronk to duel Shark for respect. Bronk gets amped up but Shark turns him down as he only considers Yuma a worthy enough opponent.
The group takes this as a meaning to being with Rio and break their misunderstandings to the others, whom aren't entirely convinced. Rio arrives and realizes that Shark is probably why everyone else thinks she's dating Yuma. When confronted later that day, Shark knows nothing about it but is basically drawn into a duel when he finds out he could have everything posted on Flip's blog. After duel preparations take place, Shark draws and plays Big Jaws (1800) in Attack Mode. Next, he Special Summons Shark Stickers (200) in Attack Mode since he controls a Fish-Type monster (though they make you think it's from Big Jaws' effect). Then he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Submersible Carrier Aero Shark (1900) in Attack Mode. After that, he uses SCAS' effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and deal Rio 400 damage per card in her hand.
However, Rio is ready and Special Summons Guard Penguin (0000) in Attack Mode and make the Effect Damage 0. Regardless, Shark plays Aqua Gate, letting him negate 1 attack for each face-down Spell or Trap Card he controls. Finally, he sets 2 cards to end his turn. Rio draws and plays Blizzard Falcon (1500) in Attack Mode before using it and GP as Xyz Material for Ice Beast Zerofyne (2000) in Attack Mode. Rio isn't worried about AG's effect as she uses IBZ's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and negate the effects of all other face-up cards on the field until her next turn. Furthermore, SCAS loses 300 ATK for each card negated, bringing it down to 1300. (The real IBZ gains 300 ATK for each face-up card on the field.)
However, Rio becomes worried about Shark's face-down cards and decides to equip IBZ with Wings of Silence to not only give it 300 ATK to 2300 but also make it immune to Shark's Spell and Trap Cards. Her attack with it takes out SCAS to leave Shark down to 3000 LPs. Shark expected all this and activates Ghost Salvage to revive Big Jaws, Shark Stickers, and Submersible Carrier Aero Shark without any of their effects. Furthermore, he activates Full-Armored Xyz to use BJ and SS as Xyz Material fo Black Ray Lancer (2100) in Attack Mode. Furthermore, Shark uses FAX's other effect to equip BRL with SCAS, raising its ATK by 1900 to 4000. Cornered, Rio sets 1 card to end her turn so Shark draws and activates Break Stream to prevent Rio from activating Spell or Trap Cards when BRL attacks and that's just what Shark does.
As a result, IBZ is destroyed, leaving Rio down to 2300 LPs. Furthemrore, BS' other effect destroys Rio's face-down card and Shark is confident Rio didn't know what to do then and doesn't know what to do now but Rio says otherwise and activates her Ice Fire Egg Trap Card from the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice Beast Zerofyne from her Graveyard with no ATK and DEF and make it a Level 5 monster. Shark sets 1 card to end his turn so Rio draws and is having doubts of what she'll get or what Shark is planning and Shark only seems to confirm her fears but Bronk notes to trust herself and it's enough for Rio to continue. Rio's draw gets her Land of Frozen Flames, which she uses, letting IBZ become 2 Xyz Materials for an Xyz Summon since it's a WATER monster.
With that, she uses IBZ as Xyz Material for Ice Princess Zereort (2500) in Attack Mode, a move that surprises everyone watching, even Shark. Next, she uses IPZ's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and make BRL's ATK 0. Her attack forces Shark to uses FAX's third effect to send the equipped SCAS to the Graveyard and prevent BRL's destruction in battle, bringing him down to 500 LPs. After faking to consider Rio a good duelist, Shark draws and plays Drill Barnacle (300) in Attack Mode and equips with Xyz Crown to make its Rank become its Level and let it count as 2 Xyz Materials for an Xyz Summon. Furthermore, LoFF's effect makes DB also count as 2 Xyz Materials for an Xyz Summon so Shark uses all his monsters as Xyz Material for Shark Caesar (1800) in Attack Mode. Shark attacks and uses Shark Caesar's effect.
Due to SC's effect, it gains ATK equal to its number of Xyz Materials required to Xyz Summon it minus the number it currently has times 1000, giving it 3000 ATK to 4800 (though they don't really tell you that either). His attack takes out IPZ to win the duel but at least Rio is getting better but what was all that about Yuma becoming Rio's girlfriend? All Shark really said was that Yuma was the only one capable of remotely catching up to his own skill level. Bronk asks about a duel where he'll buy her an ice cream cone if she wins and Rio agrees but first has to attend to the rumor Flip and Caswell started.
