Episode 22: The Shark Hunter
We find Hart in bed unwilling to even notice his brother's delivery of his favorite drink, nor really change when Kite mentions how Hart used to be. Back in reality, Mr. Heartland arrives to note that Hart has to return to work and despite Kite's protest, Hart obeys and follows Mr. Heartland out of the room. Inside his room, Yuma learns of the giant ship inside the key and falls out of bed in excitement. Neither of them know how to get the ship out but Astral figures that once they have all the numbers, they'll get their answer. Meanwhile, Kite arrives to inform Orbital 7 of going to get Numbers again and Orbital's excuse doesn't convince him so Orbital gets right on his task at hand. Kite heads out, planning to make his next duel with Yuma Yuma's last.
The next day, Yuma is running late to swim class and Shark walks past Mr. Kay, uninterested in what he has to say. Yuma arrives but Caswell is in no mood to allow Yuma in (and we can see girls that resemble Alexis Rhodes from GX and Akiza Izinski from 5Ds behind them). Tori sides with Caswell due to the injury Caswell sustained and Yuma reluctantly puts the key in his locker. Up above, Shark wonders if he can learn from Yuma but a moving upside down trash can catches his eye. The trash can moves inside, revealing that Orbital 7 is underneath and looking for the locker room. While Astral ponders inside the key, Orbital 7 manages to find Yuma's locker and takes the key but Shark then snatches it and sends Orbital crashing into the wall.
It turns out to be a big mistake as Orbital reveals a much nastier side and Shark races to get away with Orbital giving chase. Worse still, Astral notices that the gears are stopping and the numbers are disengaging, leading him to believe he as a problem. The chase leads to a platform and just as Orbital is about to lay some hurt on Shark, Kite stops him as the attack wasn't authorized. Kite suggests Shark hand over the number but when Shark refuses, the two agree on a duel. Duel preparations get underway before the damage to the school is noticed. Nevertheless, Shark gets the duel started by discarding Big Jaws to activate Shark Lair, preventing Kite from attacking with monsters whose ATK is less than or equal to BJ's 1800.
Next he summons Shocktopus (1600) in Attack Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn. Kite draws and much to Shark's shock, uses Polymerization to send his two Photon Lizards to the Graveyard for Twin Photon Lizard (2400) in Attack Mode. His attack takes out Shocktopus, bringing Shark down to 3200 but this activates Shocktopus' effect to equip itself to TPL and not only make its ATK 0 but prevent it from changing its battle position. However, Kite isn't worried as he uses TPL's effect to trade it for its two Photon Lizard Fusion Materials (900 x2) in Attack Mode. Shark grins as this can only mean an Xyz Summon and Kite does so with the PLs for Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction (3000) in Attack Mode.
Shark takes the opportunity to activate Splash Capture to remove from play 2 WATER monsters in his Graveyard to gain control of Number 30. Orbital notes that Kite should've let it handle Shark but Kite doesn't care and uses Forced Release to remove all of Acid Golem's Xyz Materials. Then he sets 1 card to end his turn. Shark isn't worried because AG still has 3000 ATK and he can't wait to use them. Shark draws and due to AG's effect, since Shark didn't detach an Xyz Material from it, he takes 2000 damage, bringing him down to 1200. He goes to attack but is told about Acid Golem needing Xyz Materials to be able to attack, leaving it useless to Shark. Shark is about to give in but since he has Yuma's key, he's reminded of how Yuma wouldn't give up and sets 1 card to end his turn.
Kite draws and while Shark is confidence that his face down card will save him from Number 30's side-effect, Kite uses Photon Sublimation to remove from play the two Photon Lizards in his Graveyard to draw twice. Next he Special Summons Photon Thrasher (2100) in Attack Mode (since he controls no monsters but they don't tell you that). Next he plays Photon Crusher (2000) in Attack Mode. Oops! At 17:49 into the US episode, Photon Thrasher's card is shown instead of PC's card as it has 2100 ATK when PC has 2000 ATK. Then he tributes them for Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon (3000) in Attack Mode. (The real card can be Summoned other ways.)
As a result, a storm gathers and everyone, including Astral notices it. Astral learns he needs the power of Zexal but while he ponders what that means, Kite attacks and takes out AG as AG's effect to protect itself from battle except with a Number monster isn't there anymore since it has no Xyz Materials. (The real card doesn't have this effect at all.) Furthermore, since Number 30 was destroyed, Shark takes 2000 damage, winning Kite the duel. (The real card doesn't have this effect either.) Kite takes Shark's soul but finds there's no Number card, yet takes Yuma's key just as Yuma and the others arrive. Kite has Astral now!
