Jaden moans about not being able to pass the Promotion Exam. He is dueling in what looks to be some sort of simulation. The cards (except Clayman) have been redesigned for US as shown at 0:04 into the episode. It is revealed that he's dueling Syrus, whom says he'll take out Clayman with Drillroid (1600) in Attack Mode and does so, then attacks for the victory. Jaden says he must stay calm during these tests. Isn't Chumley a little too chilled? Syrus says Chumley was up all night studying. Jaden says that that's a little too much studying, even for Chumley. Syrus replies by saying that Chumley has failed the exam twice and if he doesn't pass this one, he's out of DA forever. In his sleep, Chumley thinks that with his dueling skills, that's what's going to happen. At class, the gang is painting for card designs and both Jaden and Syrus question what each other thinks of the other's. Jaden asks what Chumley made and everyone applauds Chumley's work as Syrus questions Jaden not seeing Ayer's Rock (neither have I, if it exists).

Crowler announces for Chumley to report to Sheppard's office. At his office, Chumley asks if he's in trouble but Sheppard laughs, saying that he has good news and hands him a card, which has the art he painted earlier. Who chose his card? Pegasus did! Pegasus appears on the screen saying it was difficult to choose from so many cards and Chumley's was picked by himself. Pegasus asks if Chumley wants to work at his company if his teachers agree. Sheppard says yes but Crowler disagrees, saying that Chumley hasn't passed his exams but is willing to let Chumley go if he defeats Crowler in a duel but if he loses, he is expelled. He walks out of Sheppard's office. Jaden and Syrus congratulate Chumley on having his card made but Chumley isn't too happy. Later that night, Jaden finds Chumley outside and Chumley says they have to talk and it's important. He says he has to defeat Crowler in a duel or he'll be expelled. Jaden's confused and asks Chumley to repeat, which Chumley does. Why does Crowler have to make everything so difficult? Jaden reassures Chumley that he'll just have to defeat Crowler. Jaden did.

The next day, in the arena, the duel starts as Chumley sets 1 card face down. Oops, he says he sets 1 card face down but that's a phrase for a Spell/Trap Card not a monster! Crowler calls his move lame and draws, playing Magnet Circle LV2, letting him summon Ancient Gear and with AG's effect, he can play another AG (100 x2) in Attack Mode. Then he tributes them for Ancient Gear Golem (3000) in Attack Mode and attacks, destroying the face down Des Koala and dropping Chumley's score to 2800 with its effect but Chumley explains that DK's effect deals 400 damage to Crowler for each card in his hand, dropping his score to 3200. Where did Chumley learn to duel like that? Jaden explains that during his duel with his dad, Chumley blanked out on DK's flip-effect but thanks to last night, he's a dueling machine. Chumley draws and plays Eucalyptus Mole (1300) in Defense Mode. Finally, he sets 1 card to end his turn. Crowler draws and attacks with GG, destroying EM and leaving Chumley with 1100. However, Chumley explains that by destroying EM, he can Special Summon 1 Koala monster from his deck and he chooses Big Koala (2700) in Attack Mode. Crowler says BK is a big waste and plays Ancient Gear Soldier (1300) in Defense Mode. Chumley draws and plays Wild Nature's Release, adding BK's DEF to its ATK for a total of 4700. He attacks and destroys GG, leaving Crowler with 1500. Crowler thinks it's nothing he can't handle but Chumley activates Beast Soul Swap, allowing him to return a Beast monster to his hand, then summon another Beast monster with the same level and he chooses another Big Koala in Attack Mode. Syrus doesn't get why Chumley swapped for the same monster. Bastion explains that WNR is risky as it destroys your monster, unless you swap it like Chumley did. Chumley attacks and destroys AGS, then sets 1 card to end his turn.

Crowler plays Pot of Greed to draw twice, then plays Ancient Gear Factory, letting him summon AGG but Alexis asks where the sacrifice as AGG needs one (it actually needs two sacrifices) but Sheppard appears, saying that in this case it's not true and Crowler adds that by removing AG monsters whose total levels are twice that of his AGG, they become the sacrifice so he brings out another Ancient Gear Golem in Attack Mode and destroys BK, leaving Chumley with 800. How can he recommend Chumley when he can't win an easy duel? (I wouldn't be talking, Crowler, you haven't won one yet either.) Chumley activates his Trap Card, Animal Trail, letting him add Des Kangaroo to his hand. Crowler then activates Ancient Gear Drill, which lets him add any Spell Card and set it on the field. (It also forces you to discard 1 card to activate it, although he doesn't say so but he does do it.) After some motivation from the crowd, Chumley draws. It's the card he created when he went camping with his dad. Who was he kidding, it's also the day he went to throw his deck away off the highest rock he could find. Then he saw the most beautiful sunrise ever and now realizes that things don't stay dark for very long.

He plays Ayer's Rock Sunrise, letting him Special Summon a Beast monster from his Graveyard. He chooses BK in Attack Mode. In addition, for each Beast, Plant or Winged-Beast monster in his Graveyard, AGG loses 200 ATK, lowering its ATK to 2600. Next he uses Polymerization to summon Master of Oz (4200) in Attack Mode and attacks but Crowler activates Limiter Removal, doubling his GG to 5200, destroying Master of Oz and winning the duel. A teary-eyed Chumley is baffled as everyone applauds his performance. Crowler says that the duel wasn't to win or lose but to prove his ability and from what Chumley has shown, he recommends him for Industrial Illusions. (Since when does Crowler act NICE to anyone but his best students?) Everyone has a good laugh and Chumley leaves, saying he'll come back someday.
