Episode 133: Clash in the Coliseum (5)

Still in Joey's hospital room, the gang see that Obelisk has returned and Tristan can't see how Yugi can win without Slifer (of course, he could still lose with Slifer if Slifer is weaker than Obelisk) and grabs Joey despite the pleas of everyone around him, explaining that Joey needs to see this and perhaps could wake up (Joey isn't even awake so he can't see the duel going on, genius.) and Joey quickly becomes detached from any machinery he was hooked up to. Back at the duel, Yami reminds Kaiba that his God Card won't be around long but Kaiba doesn't care for Obelisk has served its purpose. Nevertheless, Yami sets 1 card to end his turn. Once Kaiba makes his next move, Yami is history!

While Tristan continues trying to wake Joey up, Joey continues his dream in which he has now made it to to the tournament's finals.  Joey arrives and the referee gives rules indicating the tournament takes place during Duelist Kingdom (though I have to ask, are card effects also prohibited from allowing monsters to attack directly or is just when your opponent has no monsters?). The duelists take their positions and Joey's opponent begins with Nekogal #1 (1100) in Attack Mode (behold her usual censorship at 5:46 into the US episode). Joey isn't scared but draws M-Warrior #1, not strong enough to take out Nekogal but is reminded of what Duel Monsters is about and summons M-Warrior #1 (1000) in Attack Mode, equipping it with Legendary Sword and raising its ATK and DEF by 300 to 1300 and 800 respectively. His attack successfully destroys Nekogal and leaves his opponent down to 1800 LPs. His opponent sets 1 card and summons Lesser Dragon (1200) in Attack Mode to end his turn. Oops! At 6:59 into the US episode, Lesser Dragon is at least Level 5 when we know it's Level 4.

Joey decides to attack but the David activates Reinforcements, giving his LD a 500 ATK boost to 1700, taking out MW#1 and leaving Joey down to 1600 LPs. Joey summons Tiger Axe (1300) in Attack Mode but the David wants to see more.

Meanwhile, Kaiba draws and switches his Lord of D./Dragons to Defense Mode before activating The Flute of Summoning Dragon to bring out two more Blue-Eyes White Dragons (3000 x2) in Attack Mode. While Yami figures out what to do next, Joey's opponent plays Steel Ogre Grotto (Steel Ogre Grotto #1 in the CG) (1400) in Attack Mode, then uses Polymerization to bring out Metal Dragon (1850) in Attack Mode. His attack with it destroys TA and leaves Joey's score down to 1050. Joey's draw yields him Flame Swordsman, which is just shy of being able to beat MD so he plays Hero of the East (1000) in Defense Mode. As the helicopter approaches Kaiba Corp Island, Yami realizes he's out of options to beat Kaiba. Back in Joey's dream, the David uses Stop Defense to put Joey's Hero of the East to Attack Mode. Next he attacks and destroys HotE with MD, leaving Joey down to 300. Finally he sets 1 card to end his turn.

Joey draws, remembers to consider all his options, then plays Flame Swordsman (1800) in Attack Mode. Next he equips Gust Fan to MD, raising its ATK by 400 to 2200 and lowering its DEF by 200 to 1500. Then he uses Shield & Sword to switch the ATK and DEF of all monsters, putting FS' ATK at 1600 and MD's ATK to 1500 but to his surprise, Flame Swordsman is destroyed as the David activated Castle Walls to raise his monster's DEF by 500 to 2000 DEF first and since that became its ATK, Joey loses the 400 point difference and the duel. (The real S&S switches the ATK and DEF of both monsters before any additional changes to ATK an DEF, which would've given MD 2750 DEF and FS would've destroyed it in battle. It also doesn't affect monsters played after its activation so Joey could still have summoned FS after using S&S to destroy MD.) The players compliment each other on their skills and separate.

On Kaiba's Duel Tower, Kaiba continue gloating before deciding to attack and just when Yami thinks it's over, Joey reminds him to consider his options before Yami plays Red-Eyes Black Dragon (Red-Eyes B. Dragon in the CG) (2400) in Attack Mode to Kaiba's astonishment as Yami explains that TFoSD works for both players (not true with the CG version). Nevertheless, Kaiba attacks Yami's DM with one of his BEWDs but Yami activates Magician's Selection, forcing Kaiba's attacking monster to attack his weakest monster so Lord of D is destroyed instead. Next, Kaiba successfully destroys Yami's Beta The Magnet Warrior with his second BEWD. He goes to attack Yami's REBD but Yami uses Spellbinding Circle to stop the attack and lower its ATK by 700 to 2300 and takes it out with REBD's counterattack that leaves Kaiba's score down to 1900. Inside Joey's hospital room, Joey awakens.
