WIth Joey having gotten the match he wanted, he holds high confidence for beating Marik despite having previously barely won against Odeon and his fake copy of The Winged Dragon of Ra. Kaiba intends to watch Joey's match to see how Ra works so that he's ready when he claims it. Marik arrives and the Duel gets underway as Marik takes it to the Shadow Realm and adds new rules that costs a player energy when their monster is destroyed. Aside from the Shadow Game, Marik also has the upper hand in the Duel, even as Joey takes down his stronger monster. Joey then faces intense pain as his monsters are targeted by Marik's monster that can equip itself to them. It's looking like Joey's going to fall the same way Mai did.
