True and False: Titanic History (Page 9)

What was Titanic?
R.M.S Titanic (aka Royal Mail Steamer/Steamship) Titanic was an ocean liner that sailed from April 10th 1912 at Southampton, England to what was intended to be New York City, but sank on April 14/15th 1912. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was intended to be part of a trio of sister ships for White Star Line.

Myth #9: 3rd Class Locked Below?
James Cameron's film really highlighted this and without any other context available at the time to contradict it, many viewers likely took it as fact. Museums have also included it, but as far as facts go, this isn't true.

1. The ship's plans have no such gates in those areas. They would've certainly had gates to keep passengers out of crew areas and maybe keep the classes separate though.

2. In fact, the only gates that 3rd Class could've really encountered was when they reached the Poop Deck on the Stern, and even those gates weren't much of an obstacle.

3. Realistically, it wouldn't have likely mattered because most of 3rd class didn't speak English well, if at all and the ship was a labyrinth of corridors, not to mention they were pretty deep in the ship as a whole.
