True and False: Titanic History (Page 5)
What was Titanic? R.M.S Titanic (aka Royal Mail Steamer/Steamship) Titanic was an ocean liner that sailed from April 10th 1912 at Southampton, England to what was intended to be New York City, but sank on April 14/15th 1912. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was intended to be part of a trio of sister ships for White Star Line. Myth #5: Ismay a Coward? Likely reinforced from James Cameron's film where Ismay is seen getting into a boat well before the ship's final plunge as if to do so without anyone noticing. However, you can realistically write that off as a work of fiction for the movie and/or just lack of understanding as the details were hard to come by at the time. 1. On the contrary, Ismay was seen helping others to practically the bitter end, which only reinforces that he was a good-spirited person. 2. Since we've already debunked the idea of Titanic aiming for a speed record, it only makes sense that Ismay would be helping others until the very end. By the end of the disaster, he was far from the person he once was. He couldn't bare to see Titanic go down. 3. Ismay was also not one to bark orders either. He accepted orders he was given and helped out where he could. 4. The idea that Ismay is a coward only came out after the disaster by someone who resented him.
